The Art of Being a Grandma!

IMG_1299Grandbabies! Yes, I am hooked!  They are pretty special. In the last six months we have had two additions to our family. On August 2nd our son Will and his wife Jessica had a baby girl. Her name is Finley Grace. She is six months old, sitting up by herself, laughing at the cat’s silly antics. She loves to be read to and calls out for her Dada! I love walking into their house because she recognizes us and engages with us. We get to see her about every three or four weeks.

I’m in San Diego right now. Mike and I came Tuesday to see our newest addition. Our daughter Katie and her husband Vic had a baby girl on January 8th.IMG_1409 (1) Lydia Ryan is a tiny thing but she looks up at you and focuses on our faces. They also have two dogs: Bernie, a 125-pound Bernese Mountain Dog, and Abby, an Australian Cattle Dog. They go where the baby goes. If she cries, they come running. One sits by her side and the other licks her feet to soothe her. It’s too cute. Katie has two built-in nannies.
I love my granddaughters. People tell you that your heart will burst with love for them, but I feel an overwhelming sense of pride and love for my children as I watch them parenting. Will is very involved with Finley.IMG_1327 He cooks, cleans, reads to her, bathes her and caters to her and her mom. Vic is the same way. He cooks, walks the dogs, and takes care of Lydia so that Katie can sleep. He sent us a great picture. He put the Boba carrier on and took Lydia for a walk. IMG_1406They are fathers that take their role seriously. They love their wives and treat them with graciousness and kindness. What else could a mom or dad possibly ask for their children. Katie and Jessica are very laid back. I haven’t seen anything about motherhood or babyhood rattle them or upset them. I love their calm demeanor.

The greatest thing is that all four of them love Jesus. One less thing to worry about…because I know that these blessed grandchildren will be brought up knowing the name of Jesus.

Mike told the church the other day that we were coming to see Lydia and that he might see me again around Christmas time. Well if you can’t find me you’ll know where I am!
