Like a Little Child

Okay profound thought this morning…am I serving with a pure heart?  Matthew 18:1-5 says (paraphrased) that we should be like little children in order to enter the kingdom of heaven.  It goes on to say that we should humble ourselves like the innocent child so that we can be open to seeing Jesus more clearly.  Ummm…and then I began to think about my granddaughters.  They are clearly coming into their own in this world.  They are discovering new words everyday and taking steps.  They are carefree, dancing and crawling and giggling about the least little thing because all things are wonderful to them.  Do we as Christians think that all things around us are wonderful?  Do we take advantage of our relationship with the Lord because we just expect Him to always be there for us?

If we are honest with ourselves I believe we would have to answer yes to all of those questions.  I know I do.  I have called myself a Christian most of my life.  I learned to call the name Jesus when I was about five and I just turned thirty (for the second time) so yes I’ve known him for a long time.  In this new season of my life I want to be more like my grandbabies.  I want to find a new innocence in my relationship with Jesus.  I want to come to Him humbled and desirous of an intimate relationship with Him.  I want to stand and sing with a new found freedom of putting myself before the throne and calling on His name.

Our lives are not our own.  We don’t know when they will end or how they will end.  I do know this though, we must keep our eyes focused on the one person that will always be there, will always be our strength and support, so that we can stay on a path that leads us through grace and truth. Our lives must be more than meaningful and full.  They must have purpose – spiritually deep and divine purpose.  We must never be too old to announce our ABC’s while dancing up and down. We are definitely never too old to admit that we can’t do life alone.  We need you Jesus.

“I will praise you forever, O God, for what you have done.  I will trust in your go.od name in the presence of your faithful people.”  Psalm 52:9
