The Changing Face of Worship

Do you ever go through something and you wonder – where are you Lord? Off course you do, we are all human and that side of us always gets in the way of what the Lord is doing, could do or wants to do in our lives.courage image

A little over 2 years ago Mike, my honey of 35 years this month, we were talking at dinner about his day, and he told me that God had given him a renewed vision for the church. I’m like, “okay, what is it.” We had been having four services and basically had four churches within the walls of the building. It was tough, at least for me it was, because it was hard to get to know people and the services were all so different and it just wasn’t a real good experience in worship. Sorry, but I’ve been a preacher’s daughter since I was 6 and a preacher’s wife for 35 years…I know what good worship is and everything was very disjointed with worship. Well we begin to pray about this vision and how he was going to bring it about. His first step was to begin a sermon series on Unity and unifying the body. The plan was to preach this series and in 3 months move to 2 services with a very blended style of worship. Problem was that no one really knew or understood how to blend a contemporary worship with a traditional worship and we knew that no matter what was done people would not be happy. Well you guessed it…it happened and people weren’t happy. The worship was rough inside and out and all around the edges…what can I say it was tough.

Mike and I continued to pray for guidance as he continued to stand strong on what he felt God was leading him to do as the Pastor. In our quiet times we ran across the most obscure verses. You know the ones that you say to yourself, “where did those come from.”

There were two in the same week.

First, there was this one:

For I am doing something in your own day, something you   wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it! Habakkuk 1:5habakkuk1_1024x1024

WOW!

Second,

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun. Do you not see it? Isaiah 43:19 DOUBLE WOW!Isaiah scripture image

Now everyone has not been real pleased about the changes, and a lot of people have left, but those that have stayed have plugged into the worship like never before. You walk into our worship center and you can feel the presence of God. You can, at times, be so overwhelmed with the Holy Spirit that it causes you to weep with sheer joy. Worship is morphing into something joyous and beautiful and people’s lives are changing. I believe too, that the change has occurred because we have all discovered that worship must be about what we, the people, bring to the worship experience. Most of all, we have come together as a body, a family that is seeking to worship our King!worship

In the days ahead, as we face all the troubles of this world, it is comforting to know that God is still in control! Do you feel it? Do you see it?
